Robert “DOC” Hemphill, Jr.

 

Gospel Jazz artist Robert “DOC” Hemphill, Jr., Ph.D. is a United Methodist Church pastor who appreciates and loves music from all genres.  He plays music that inspires his audiences and he’s done that for over 50 years.  DOC as he’s known in the music world plays a stage piano/keyboard and he plays everything from inspirational to jazz/gospel jazz music in a soulful and jazzy style.  DOC Hemphill started his musical career in college by playing jazz piano for Dove and Grammy nominated Jazz/Gospel Jazz Saxophonist Ron Brown who also played in the college marching band with Hemphill.  DOC was also a member of the Sam Houston State University’s famed gospel group, “The Soul Lifters” (The oldest collegiate gospel choir in the State of Texas).

 

Robert who has an earned Doctor of Philosophy from New Mexico State University has performed/played and worked with some of the best in the business (Ron Brown, Dave Larson, Mary Grimes, James Bignon, Billy Towns, Mike Hamilton, Rick Malachi, Dorothy Norwood and Nikki Mathis).
